It was my introduction to the water loss by the agriculture community. How sad to see the barren fields where orchards, and vineyards flourished in the past. It appears that David is correct that some farmers decided to sell water to cities. While I do not know all the details of why, it's obvious that if California regulation allowed the water to be sold instead of used, that's their business. That's certainly not the case for all farmers. The problem we're discussing here is not about what those who were not using their water did. The issue is about the farmers that are growing crops to feed our nation. Cutting off water from the Central Valley has had dire consequences. It's not like they can fix the problem by diverting water from cities back to farms. That's not an option on the table. Thanks PF.
