I don’t believe ANYONE’S sexuality is cause for celebration. Maybe it could be considered if either Milk or Moscone had actually done anything memorable… or beneficial to society… and NOT supported murderous socialist cults…

I knew Harvey Milk, and even though he was both openly gay and Jewish like myself… I did not support him when he ran for S.F. City Supervisor from the 5th District. I worked and supported Terry Hallinan, who was straight, married and a well known lawyer with a great Civil Rights record, and defended 27 G.I.’s who did not want to return to the Vietnam War in the 60’s and also was a “Freedom Rider” during the early stages of the Civil Rights battle. I thought he could better serve most of the residents and businesses of the district. Ironically, my photo of Harvey, introduced Milk, as “the” openly gay spokesman against the anti-gay forces led by Anita Bryant, via my Associated Press photo on 6/7/77, 5 months before he was elected. However, once Harvey was elected… he helped to beat State Senator Briggs Prop 6, and represented the district well on the Board. Even Terry and I, would of voted for him had he not been assassinated along with Mayor George Moscone. I BELIEVE, THAT THE HARVEY MILK DAY SHOULD OF BEEN CALLED
“MILK AND MOSCONE DAY” because many of the advancements in gay rights began with the election of Moscone as Mayor in 1975. He was a true friend, and included many openly gay people as part of his administration. He often took part in many gay events, even though it was not election time. Together, they would of made a just cause to have a holiday named after them. I also believe that the movie informed many of the early days of the S.F. gay rights struggle… and introduced Harvey Milk, and that era to millions of people, young and old, gay and straight, here in America and around the world. Naming Milk with a holiday in his honor is right… but including Mayor George Moscone would make it better.

I’ve been emailing the Gov for the entire year on the Gay Day subject. You just get the same prescripted response back every time. Schwartzeneger just says he “generaly does not take a position on a bill until it reaches his desk because of significant changes in the details”. Regardless of what his emails say, I’m sure he has allready decided what he is going to do.

Why would you think the “hotline” would want your name, let alone care about your opinion? If you want the Governator to really know how you feel, you’d use the number all those “wonderful” people who gave campaign contributions to him use. You’d need to donate more than a grand, but its a small price to pay to buy into our free market democracy.

Why would they want your name? Its not like elected officials listen to people who call the “hotline.” If you donated a couple grand to his campaign however, I’m sure he would be more willing to listen.

I called the gov’s office and it said press 1 if you support or 2 if you don’t. So after pressing the number it said, ‘thank you’ and that was it. Don’t you think that is dumb? Couldn’t anyone call a million times in a row? Don’t they want to hear at least my name? Well, whatever. Sometimes I wonder…

He wasn’t a movie character first. The movie Milk was based on real events. However, I do think, (and I believe I told Beetle this earlier) that giving Harvey Milk a holiday is about the same as giving Jesse Ventura a holiday in Montana. Yes they both did interesting things, went against the grain, and were great public figures, I don’t think that necessarily warrants a “holiday.”
