Equality Maine—Epic Grass Roots FAIL!

grassroots_fail_1

First came the news that Equality California (EQCA) was uprooting activists and moving them to Maine to fight against the People’s Veto.  Now this.

Today as I was tweeting my heart out on Tweetdeck, I came across many pleas for assistance from the Equality Maine group, and then there was this reply:

Click the link provided and voila!  A map appears with precise location targeted for the phone bank.  Sure enough, it’s Redlands California, more than 3,000 miles from the nearest port in Maine.

But Wait, There’s More!  Here’s example #2 of EPIC Grass Roots FAIL:

Free Maine Vacation! Courtesy of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force

“Meetup in Maine” By Lisa Neff

“Well, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force has taken on the role of travel agent and is lining up GLBT folks from across the country for an October holiday.

This is a New England holiday, a meet-up in Maine, where, next month, Mainers and their out-of-state allies will be courting votes to defend marriage rights against a wrong-wing attack.

“We need volunteers who can commit to spending at least a week in Maine in October to be part of an unprecedented get-out-the-vote operation,” reads the action alert from the NGLTF. “We have several shifts to choose from, each lasting one week. If you can, feel free to take more than one shift.”

And, for those who can’t trek to Maine, join the stay-cation volunteer campaign. Pledge support or donate to No on 1/Protect Maine Equality.”

Our friend gabegonz must be a “stay-cation” volunteer.  Thank you to the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and @gabegonz for your tweet display of honesty to the people of Maine.  But I can’t say the same for the “No on 1” Campaign.

What about the promises made in the beginning of the campaign that this would be a local deal?  It looks like a grass-roots FAIL of epic proportions as I looked into the issue deeper and found that the “No on 1” campaign is actually ADVERTISING for astroturfers on their website!

“The countdown is on. In the weeks ahead, volunteers will be needed in key places throughout the state. Join us by taking a Volunteer Vacation and if you live in Maine, we also need help finding housing for our out-of-state volunteers.” —“No on 1” Campaign Website

Epic FAIL.

Stand for Marriage Maine!  Stand up and hold back against the tide of the opposition!  Truly, this is an issue that will affect us all for generations.

If Mainers really want same sex marriage, we’ll choose it ourselves. We don’t need help from EQCAXYZ.

As a Californian, and supporter of prop8  I feel the need to remind the people of Maine and ?1 supporters to always remember not to stoop to the level of your opponents. They will lie, threaten, and call you the worst of names. Think nothing of it. In California or wear i live 50miles north of San Francisco our Church  had it windows smashed in, our bishop chased around the parking lot by a mad women in a car claiming we (Mormons) would be cast  or thrown out of the state, and my mother called a Nazi. in our first attempt to save marriage are parking lot was used as a bonfire to burn are yard sings. So be ready for the fight of your life and good luck to you. (God Save The Right)
