High School Welcomes Gay Speakers, but Rejects HIV-Positive Christian Speaker

A Bay Area high school that attracted controversy last year for its “Days of Diversity” program is again welcoming pro-gay speakers. But the school has rejected a request by a student Christian club to host an HIV-positive speaker whose experience with homosexuality proved to be life-threatening.

Castro Valley High School sparked controversy last year by hosting several questionable presenters, including Rev. Arlene K Nehring, a lesbian minister who talked to students in math and science classes about her gay wedding, encouraged them to “come out” to God, their families and themselves, and invited them to a gay prom at her church. Because of the religious overtones in past and pending presentations, students in the Revelation Club were surprised when the school rejected their request to host Christopher Yuan because of “separation of church and state.” Mr. Yuan is HIV-positive and had been invited by the students to speak on the topic “Christian, Gay, and Celibate.” In addition, it appears that the school has blocked links relating to Mr. Yuan, though continuing to allow access to gay websites.

Attorneys for Pacific Justice Institute sent a letter to the high school late last week, demanding that CVHS drop its illegal viewpoint discrimination.

CRI’s Karen England commented, “It is unfortunate that the school’s so-called diversity does not extend to Christians on campus. This type of favoritism in the classroom is unconstitutional and is sending the wrong message to our students.”

There has been no word whether Castro Valley High School has responded to Pacific Justice Institute’s letter and whether or not they will welcome Mr. Yuan to speak at the school after all.

National Teachers’ Union Officially Endorses Homosexual Marriage, Adoption
The National Education Association, a labor union with 3.2 million members, voted to endorse homosexual marriage, adoption, and more at its national meeting this month.

“They will help to overturn legislation that is discriminatory against same-sex couples,” Jeralee Smith, cofounder of the Conservative Educators Caucus within NEA, told OneNewsNow.

A five point action plan on homosexual issues was adopted by NEA’s Representative Assembly, where thousands of delegates passed it by voice vote. This means NEA will lobby for policy changes on homosexual marriage, legal and healthcare benefits for same-sex couples, and more.

Observers believe that NEA wants to overturn the federal Defense of Marriage Act, though they call it an implied intention, rather than a stated goal.

A commenter on the Queers United blog wrote, “There were many of us who wanted stronger language, but were happy to have something that would pass in more conservative areas.”

An effort to remove religious protections was soundly rejected by delegates.

Yet NEA’s action plan only affirms that religious institutions have the right “to refuse to perform or recognize same-sex marriages.” This raises questions about church freedom on homosexuality, apart from marriage, such as in a church’s hiring decisions.

The plan also fails to address freedoms for individuals and privately owned businesses. Companies that do not offer same-sex partner health benefits — or adoption agencies that decline to place children with same-sex couples — could find NEA lobbyists working against them.

At least one delegate tried to speak against the action plan.

“As soon as she mentioned the words ‘marriage should be between a man and a woman,’ she got booed,” Smith said, according to Baptist Press.

“The chair stopped the booing and reminded everybody that in a democracy everyone gets to have their say,” she said.

Smith also said that the Conservative Teachers Caucus hoped to speak against the action plan, but did not have an opportunity.

Certainly, not all teachers share the official NEA position on issues like homosexual adoption.

Yet schools have been sufficiently effective, in teaching students to support homosexuality, that many activists say future generations’ textbooks will tell how backward Americans once were.

This makes it vitally important for families to teach the rationale and historical backing for traditional values like man-woman marriage.

The Representative Assembly vote, which opens the way for NEA to spend large sums of money on pro- homosexuality advocacy, underscores NEA willingness to promote an activist social agenda.

“Money that NEA teachers make by teaching our kids is being spent to combat our longstanding American values,” said Karen England, Executive Director of Capitol Resource Institute.

“NEA delegates may have passed the action plan by a clear majority, but every time this issue has gone to state voters, the result showed a very different set of priorities,” she said.

CRI: Parents Beware! GLSEN Founder to be National Supervisor for “Safe Schools”

“The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing. If you can fake that, you’ve got it made.”  —Groucho Marx

GLSEN Founder, Kevin Jennings has been asked to be the National Supervisor charged with overseeing “Safe Schools”.

In his own words, activist Kevin Jennings, director of the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) describes how immorality got a foothold in the Massachusetts schools by using “safety” as an issue.”

“We immediately seized upon the opponent’s calling card — safety — and explained how homophobia represents a threats to students’ safety by creating a climate where violence, name-calling, health problems, and suicide are common. Tilting our report, ‘Making Schools Safe for Gay and Lesbian Youth,’ we automatically threw our opponents onto the defensive and stole their best line of attack. This….short-circuited their arguments and left them back-peddling from day one.”

GLSEN Founder to Oversee “Safe Schools” Nationwide

Much has been made of the new Supreme Court nominee, but just as concerning is what flies under the radar.

In an announcement on Tuesday, Federal Secretary of State Arne Duncan made his choice for Assistant Deputy Secretary in the Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools.

He chose Kevin Jennings, a leading advocate for homosexuality, bisexuality, and transsexuality in schools. Jennings is founder and former Executive Director of the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN).

“This man’s work and his agenda are exactly why we’ve seen the radical pro-homosexuality curriculum pushed across California. He is now more strongly positioned to implement his agenda nationwide,” said Karen England, Executive Director of Capitol Resource Institute.

Jennings has been at the forefront of homosexual activism in public schools since the late 1980s, when as a high school history teacher, he was the faculty advisor to America’s first Gay-Straight Alliance club in Massachusetts.

It was in Massachusetts that he helped author Making Schools Safe for Gay & Lesbian Youth, a report whose recommendations the State Board of Education adopted as policy.

Among his recent accomplishments, Jennings co-chaired Obama for America’s LGBT Finance Committee.

As Californians know by experience, what GLSEN promotes as “school safety” usually means that every schoolchild will embrace the homosexual lifestyle or else be labeled a bigot.

This philosophy, spread across the nation by federal authority, do not promote safety for every child.

In practice, as parents in California’s Alameda Unified School District experienced this week, this philosophy means that race and religion can become less protected categories in school.

“In the last two weeks, I’ve heard from parents coast to coast who are concerned about instruction that promotes homosexuality in their children’s schools,” England said.

“The decision to appoint Jennings to the Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools should concern every parent, everywhere, because his social bias is abundantly clear,” she said.
